Tonight we went to walk around the mall and we ended up eating at a place called “Las Alitas” which was basically a chicken wing resaturant. I got a grilled chicken sandwich in hot sauce with lettuce and tomato and onion and instead of fries, they had “jicama fries”. If you’ve never had jicama before, don’t run out and get one. They are a beast to prepare, but if you’re ever in Mexico and would like to dabble in new veggies, this would be it. The best way I can describe it is the consistancy of an apple, but it’s not sweet. It’s like a potato apple. haha. A lot of times, people pair it with cucumber because it’s very light and crunchy.
Here is a picture of jicama (pronounced ‘hee-cama’) prepared with salt, lime, and ground up chile.
Anyways, I can safely say that it was probably the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. I’m really picky about fat on meat. If there is any (like Chickfila grilled chicken is so fatty!), I tear my sammie apart trying to get it all off. This sandwich had NO FAT! Like I didn’t even get any weird bites (you know, where you get those weird rubbery pieces and it kind of makes you want to throw up in your mouth?). So. Moral of the story. Las Alitas grilled chicken sandwich=1st prize for non fat chicken AND you should try jicama!
